Our first 2-hour Mississippi River cruise on the Steamboat Natchez with Holly and my parents on Dawson's birthday, Sunday, September 30 was an unforgettable experience.
We began our cruise when the Steamboat Natchez departed the Toulouse Street dock in the French Quarter at 2:30 p.m. The third balcony (the top level of the boat) is where we sat since the kids wanted to be "all the way at the top." A tour guide on board gave us the rich history of the city on the banks of the Mississippi on the eight-mile stretch of river we traveled down and back through speakers.
Cargo ships docked for loading/unloading, tugboats, plantations and military landmarks were among the many we were educated about on our tour. The kids went back with Grandma Chadd to see the paddle wheel on the back of the boat. Jillian was not sure about the big, scary paddle wheel, so she and I didn't stay long on that level of the boat! We all sipped on Cokes from the bar as we sat at our tables and enjoyed the cool(er) breeze blowing off of the river and the lazy roll of the Mississippi smoothly gliding us.
The Steamboat Natchez is quite possibly the most fun thing I've experienced here in Louisiana since moving here. I'm so glad we all got to experience it together.
