Family, The Macy's Day Parade, waking up to the smell of rising bread, trying the food before it gets to the table, football, getting out the "fine" China and silverware, figuring out how to cook and carve the turkey (Did it thaw long enough? What's THAT?!), an extra Thanksgiving guest, a nap and, most importantly, thanking God for all He has done. Our Thanksgiving was full. No pun intended!
Travis's parents Scott and Cheryl, and his sister Holly visited from Sunday to Saturday to celebrate Thanksgiving with us this year. Those six days came and went too quickly!
Thanksgiving Day I cooked, with Cheryl and Holly's help. We ate turkey (this was my time cooking one), creamed corn, green bean casserole, bread, cranberry fluff, broccoli salad that I forgot to set out on the table, and of course pumpkin and pecan pie were on the menu.
Mark Hutchison, Travis's friend and co-worker, also came and ate the Thanksgiving meal with us and spent all afternoon here playing spades with Holly, Travis and Scott. Madalynn and Justis sewed with Grandma Cheryl in-between lunch and supper, and I took a much-needed afternoon nap with Dawson before bringing out the leftovers again for round 2 that night!
Aunt Holly made special turkey cookies with the kids the day before Thanksgiving. Jillian helped Holly mix the cookie dough, and all four kids (with the help of Holly and Cheryl) decorated the turkey cookies. We had some pretty interesting-looking turkeys when they were all finished. One of the kids (I don't remember which) got to eat all of the broken candy corns as a bonus. Dawson's turkey cookies were certainly the most creative!
Happy belated Thanksgiving to all of you. I hope you had as many reasons to thank God this year as we did!
