Hurricane Ike effected us, even though we live hundreds of miles from where the storm made landfall. Ike caused an equal amount of damage, if not more, than Hurricane Gustav did. Winds were Gustav's main weapon, flooding was Ike's destructive force. Seeing a flood first-hand is an unbelievable sight. One of Travis's coworkers took these pictures. They are taken along the route Travis takes to work between Ponchatoula and New Orleans. He had to take about a 40 minute detour just to get to one of his locations during Ike, because major exits off of the Interstates were flooded!

Wow! There were so many affected from that hurricane. My sister lives in Houston and they weathered their first hurricane since they moved there. We were on vacation in Branson, MO when 75 mile/hour winds tore through over night... it was scary and it wasn't even the worst of the storm. You are brave for living so close to where hurricanes form. You have more courage than I think that I ever would.
